Nearly 80 Portland high school students ditched their classrooms this month to learn about incredible careers in tech and creative services here in Oregon.
At the Simple Career Day this month, one student looked extra happy to be there. We asked her why. She said that by coming to Simple (a beautiful workplace where many people enjoy their jobs), she finally understood what her business teacher meant about the importance of workplace culture.
We collaborated with local businesses, nonprofits, local government and school districts in October to offer four Career Days, all designed to give students a glimpse of the world of work and help them make plans for life beyond graduation.
Today wasn’t a typical school day for about 150 9th graders in the college-and-career exploration classes at Madison High School in Northeast Portland. Instead, students got a look at the world of work.
All summer long, Franklin High School student Kathya Suria donned a tool belt and entered a construction site that is very familiar to her: Her own high school.
