You may have had supportive parents, a remarkable first boss, a lucky break or all of the above. A successful career day depends on many people, as well as a shared belief in a single idea: There is a tremendous community benefit to opening employers’ doors to Portland high school students.
Many of us didn’t get career advice in high school. We had vague ideas of what we might want to “be,” but a limited sense of what people at work actually do. This is why we’re so grateful for the many caring adults helping Oregon teenagers learn what different careers are all about.
