MORE ABOUT PWA

PWA started in 2005 and has grown into a thriving, volunteer-driven nonprofit with an active board of directors and a cohesive staff. We work with Portland-area high schools to connect students with employers in every major employment sector, including health care, technology, design, construction, energy and manufacturing. We also work closely with the ACE Mentor Program of Oregon, a robust career mentoring program that shares our mission and goals.

In 2025-26, we will have a seven-person team -- a core team of six, plus a contracted event coordinator.

PWA is a coalition of business, labor, high schools and postsecondary institutions. We believe in big dreams and good careers for all high school students. Our board, staff and volunteers see meaningful access to career development as a matter of social and economic justice.

We serve nearly 9,000 students a year through career-learning experiences such as career mentorships, career days, and the annual NW Youth Careers Expo. We welcome all students, with a priority focus on underrepresented, under-resourced and marginalized communities.  Our goal is for students to develop career aspirations and make informed, inspired choices about their education after high school. This work is part of a strategy to boost Oregon’s graduation rate and help regional employers build their pipeline of talent.
