Dr. Jarrod W. Lockhart, an education leader at Oregon Health & Science University, was elected to the PWA Board of Directors in June 2025.

Lockhart is the Assistant Vice Provost, Education Outreach & Collaboration at OHSU, where he oversees OHSU’s Office of Science Education Opportunities.. He is a strategic leader and ecosystem architect with over 24 years of experience expanding educational access, strengthening workforce pathways, and advancing STEM and health career opportunities. He specializes in building sustainable networks that connect academia, industry, and communities to support student success and workforce development.

Below are some insights from Lockhart:

Best career advice: “Never underestimate the power of purpose-driven work that feeds your soul/passions. When your ‘why’ is rooted in service and equity, opportunities have a way of aligning—even in the most unexpected ways. Stay grounded, stay curious, and know that leadership often starts by showing up consistently for others.”

Most memorable job as a teenager: “One of my first jobs was as an environmental science summer camp counselor. I didn’t realize it then, but that experience shaped my approach to mentorship and education. I learned how to connect with young people from all walks of life, how to lead with empathy, and how to turn limited resources into meaningful experiences.”

Something I learned in high school about work: “I learned early on that showing up matters. Whether it was for class, a job, or a volunteer role, being dependable opened doors and built trust. That lesson has stayed with me—consistency and character often speak louder than credentials.”

What draws me to serve PWA: “I’m deeply committed to creating pathways for students—especially those from communities that have been historically excluded from opportunity. PWA’s mission aligns perfectly with my life’s work: building bridges between education, workforce, and community so that all students can see themselves in careers that once felt out of reach. Being part of PWA allows me to contribute to a collective vision of equity, access, and possibility.”
