Portland Public Schools students who fretted prior to their mock interviews with HR professionals found the experience wasn’t so bad after all. Many students, in fact, said the interviews boosted their confidence and got them thinking about their goals.
Many of us didn’t get career advice in high school. We had vague ideas of what we might want to “be,” but a limited sense of what people at work actually do. This is why we’re so grateful for the many caring adults helping Oregon teenagers learn what different careers are all about.
At the Simple Career Day this month, one student looked extra happy to be there. We asked her why. She said that by coming to Simple (a beautiful workplace where many people enjoy their jobs), she finally understood what her business teacher meant about the importance of workplace culture.
At career assemblies held on Portland Public Schools campuses, students learned about a variety of careers, ranging from healthcare, high tech and public safety to architecture, construction and engineering, plus many more.
