October 10, 2019 | 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Do you dream of a career in public safety? Come join the action-packed Career Day with the U.S. Coast Guard Station Portland!
Career Day Information
Learn about careers in public safety with the nonprofit Portland Workforce Alliance! The Coast Guard Career Day will include the following workshops:
Damage controlman “wet trainer”: This incorporates how the “DC” rate may need to make quick repairs to a ship’s hull or pipe that has a hole and may sink. Note: Students will get wet in this activity (weather permitting).
Aviation Survival Technicians: Helicopter rescue swimmers will bring out their gear for demonstrations.
Incident Management Division: The Coast Guard's oil response team will have an oil recovery and separation activity.
Radiation detection: Ship inspectors use radiation detection equipment to find sources of possible radioactive and nuclear agents that could impact the safety of the U.S. Students will search for these simulated agents using Coast Guard equipment.
Small boat station: This station will have a variety of missions including search and rescue and response. Students can climb into the boat.
CG Investigative Service: Federal investigators for the Coast Guard will have a fingerprinting workshop.
Physical fitness: A pull-up and sit-up competition for students who want to earn Coast Guard prizes.
