The ACE Mentor Program of Oregon this week awarded $75,000 in college scholarships to 16 Portland-area seniors interested in pursuing careers in architecture, construction management and engineering.

“We are grateful to our board of directors and industry partners, said ACE Board Chairman Jim Ray of JE Dunn. “Their generosity is what allows us to support these very deserving students.”

The scholarships were awarded after ACE’s final presentations on May 16 and May 18. Teams of ACE students shared their projects to an auditorium full of mentors, parents and fellow students. (See photo gallery below.)

This year’s scholarship winners are:

$6,000 scholarships: Jessica Howell, Tigard High School; Aubrey Moore, Lincoln High School; Gavin Macpherson, Central Catholic High School.

$5,000 scholarships: Nancy Barroso-Reyes, Roosevelt High School; Ross Miho, Jefferson High School; Hilary Chaimov, Lincoln High School; Jose Sanchez, Glencoe High School; Julia Andrus, Grant High School.

$4,000 scholarships:  Luis Soto-Nampula, Parkrose High School; Elizabeth Rainville, Rex Putnam High School; Shauna Anderson, Sherwood High School; Hailey Chrisman, Rex Putnam High School; Julia Richards, Clackamas High School; Henok Techeste, Lincoln High School; Edgar Santos-Quintero, De La Salle High School; Christian Nieto, Jefferson High School.

Portland Public Schools had the greatest number of scholarship winners, with seven recipients from four high schools earning a combined $34,000 in college scholarships.

The ACE Mentor Program of Oregon is a proven after-school program that helps Portland metro-area high school students find their paths toward great careers in Architecture, Construction and Engineering. ACE inspires local students to go to college, helps them make informed career decisions, and uses business donations to provide college scholarships.  This year, a record 156 students participated in ACE and worked in teams with the support of 114 mentors.

Since 2006, the ACE Mentor Program of Oregon has awarded $459,000 in business-funded scholarships to 110 Oregon students. These young people are graduating from college and emerging as promising talent in their fields.

The ACE Mentor Program of Oregon is an independent nonprofit organization staffed by the Portland Workforce Alliance.
