Girls in Tech Career Day

Check in 4:15 PM. Program starts promptly at 4:30 pm and dinner is provided. Open to students from PWA’s partner high schools.
Learn how to succeed in tech careers with the nonprofit Portland Workforce Alliance!
- Meet amazing women who work at Portland’s leading tech companies, such as Intel,
Jama Software, Simple Finance, AWS Elemental and more.
- Hear from inspiring speakers such as Megan Bigelow, co-founder of PDX Women in Tech,
about surviving and thriving in your future career.
- Learn firsthand about fun, interesting jobs within the well-paying tech sector,
from software engineering to marketing and finance.
- Have dinner, do a fun activity, get insider tips about networking and job-hunting,
and enjoy the sense of community! All genders and gender identities welcome.

4:30 pm: Welcome, introductions and overview
4:40 pm: Megan Bigelow, founder of PDXWIT (Portland Women in Technology).
5 pm Tour of behind-the-scenes at AWS Elemental, a company started by a former PPS student (now a big Amazon-owned company)
5:20: Dinner and career panel with four inspiring women from Intel, AWS Elemental, Jama Software and Simple Finance. Learn firsthand about what they do and how they got started, overcame challenges and thrived in this industry.
6 pm: Breakout sessions, including an app prototype design activity and a “code your Alexa” activity where students can learn about coding the Amazon Echo or the free online version of it.
6:40: Your starter guide: HR tips on interviewing, networking and getting your first internship or job
6:50 pm: Wrapup and evaluation with PWA
7 pm: Close
